Emerging – Electric Vehicles (EVs)
The transport sector in Kenya is currently at a critical juncture, as it grapples with the twin issues of spiking fuel prices and mounting environmental concerns. Nevertheless, there seems to be an encouraging solution that’s emerging – electric vehicles (EVs) as well as buses powered by electricity. Leading the charge towards this electrifying revolution and propelling the country forward into a sustainable transportation future is none other than Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK).
Kenya possesses immense potential for extensive adoption of electric vehicles and buses. With an abundance of renewable energy resources, particularly geothermal and solar power, the country has a favourable position to provide its vehicle fleet with affordable, clean electricity. Moreover, the government’s emphasis on establishing green economies proposes opportunities for policies and incentives that can expedite EV implementation even further.
In order to fully unlock Kenya’s potential for electric mobility, a collaborative approach is necessary. The industry association EMAK plays a crucial role in bringing together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, academia, and civil society.
Through platforms for knowledge sharing, advocacy, and capacity building, EMAK is:
- Facilitating dialogue among policymakers, EV manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers and end-users in order to address regulatory and infrastructural challenges.
- Promoting skills development and training programs to build a robust, EV-ready workforce.
- Raising public awareness and championing the environmental and economic benefits of electric mobility.
By fostering a collaborative ecosystem, EMAK is driving the transformative change needed to make Kenya a leader in sustainable transportation. The electric mobility revolution is a unique opportunity for Kenya to jump over traditional transportation models and establish itself as a regional hub for clean, efficient, and accessible mobility solutions. With ongoing dedication, innovation, and collective action we can expedite the transition into a greener more sustainable transportation future that benefits all Kenyans
