Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) Meeting
The Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK) recently held a productive meeting with its members hosted by Ampersand Energy to discuss various essential initiatives and upcoming events. The gathering had an excellent turnout both in person and online, highlighting the invaluable work EMAK is undertaking towards supporting the growth of the electric vehicle (EV) sector in Kenya. Just but some crucial elements highlighted in the meeting:
- Development of EAC HS Codes:
EMAK is actively collaborating with the East African Community (EAC) in developing harmonized system codes for EVs and their components. This is a vital step towards standardizing classification and tariffs on imported electric vehicles across the EAC region, which will ultimately aid in facilitating trade of such vehicles as well as encourage adoption by users. - Advocacy for the Finance Act of 2024.
The association has been heavily involved in lobbying the Kenyan government for more favourable policies and incentives under Finance Act of 2024 to enhance the 2023 act. EMAK’s efforts have focused on securing tax exemptions and other financial benefits to make electric vehicles more affordable and accessible for consumers in Kenya. - Review of Member Billing Schedule.
The meeting also included a review of EMAK’s member billing schedules and procedures. The aim is to ensure the association’s fee structure is fair and transparent while providing adequate resources to support ongoing programs and activities. - Upcoming Events
EMAK has announced its plans to actively participate in and promote several upcoming industry events, including and not limited to an annual EV Players and Enthusiasts Open Day. This event provides a valuable platform for electric vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, and customers to connect with each other showcase their offerings and discuss the latest trends as well as developments within this sector. - Other initiatives.
Additionally, the meeting addressed other significant initiatives undertaken by EMAK. These efforts include engaging with policymakers to advocate for industry interests, providing technical support to members of the organization and facilitating sharing knowledge within the electric vehicle ecosystem.
The Electric Mobility Association of Kenya is committed to promoting the adoption of electric mobility in the country. A productive meeting has reinforced the association’s dedication towards supporting its members, advocating for favourable policies, and fostering growth within the EV industry in both Kenya and broader East African region
